Is your building operating the way it was designed? Achieving operational excellence is a goal of all facility managers, but it takes strategic planning and execution. Making sure the systems and people are operating as expected requires a strong understanding of key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure the correct technology, systems and procedures are in place. Join us as we discuss key topics to help facility managers achieve operational excellence in their own facilities.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify the effective definition and usage of KPIs that matter to your building
  2. Learn how lean principles can be applied in FM to maximize value
  3. Comprehend how an organization can achieve operational excellence
  4. Grow familiar with the what, when, how, and why behind commissioning and retro-commissioning
  5. Understand the impacts of retro-commissioning on facility performance and energy use intensity (EUI)

Achieving Operational Excellence Through Commissioning and Retro-Commissioning

Travis Short, PE, CxA, NEBB CP
Commissioning Director | Commissioning Technical Leader

Retro-commissioning achieves the same goal for existing buildings. Industry veteran Travis Short, commissioning director and commissioning technical leader at Henderson Building Solutions, will walk through the ins and outs of both processes and how they benefit facility operators, owners, and end users. The session will also equip attendees with insights on how commissioning and retro-commissioning can boost energy reduction and sustainability.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Grow familiar with the what, when, how, and why behind commissioning and retro-commissioning.
  2. Understand the impacts of retro-commissioning on facility performance and energy use intensity (EUI).
  3. Distinguish the difference between technical and process commissioning.

Using Your Capital Wisely: What Every FM should Know About Operational
and Capital Planning

John Edwards, P.E., FMP, CFM
Vice President and Associate at Facility Engineering Associates

Shrinking operational budgets, increasing deferred maintenance, and an organizational bias towards new construction rather than maximizing the life of existing facilities can lead to a sense of impending doom: ''Why doesn't anyone else see the problem? How much longer can this go on before we have a major system failure?'' This presentation will help facility managers think about facility planning using economic principles for long-term management and help them shape future approaches for management of their portfolios.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Describe the similarities and differences between operational and capital funding
  2. Develop a systematic approach for defining long term facility renewal and replacement needs
  3. Apply strategies for deferred maintenance reduction and long-term sustainment of facilities
