A new certification category, Formaldehyde Emission Reduction Technology, from Greenguard Environmental Institute certifies the manufacturers’ process and technology, rather than a product.

Driven by an increased focus on improved indoor air quality, the certification requires a decrease in formaldehyde levels of 80 percent or more in the manufacturing process of a product. Formaldehyde emissions must be reduced within 168 hours of the product’s production or installation.

Georgia-Pacific Chemicals is the first company certified in this category.
