Research Product is recalling a line of steam humidifiers due to a specific defect that creates a fire hazard. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall notice, the steam humidifiers contain an electrode wire with connector that can come loose causing arcing or overheating, either of which pose the threat of fire.

The steam humidifiers being recalled are sold under the AprilAire, Coleman, Luxaire, Bryant, Carrier and York brand names, and were usually installed by HVAC contractors. Facility managers should check the model number on the back of their unit and compare it to the list on CPSC’s recall notice.

Facility managers should cut power to the steam humidifiers and contact Research Products for a repair kit and to schedule an appointment with a qualified contractor to complete the repair.

There have been 103 reports of the recalled steam humidifiers overheating, resulting in 10 fires and more than $10 million in damage.
