Georgia School District Upgrades HVAC Systems and Lowers Energy Costs

Madison County Schools was experiencing numerous infrastructure challenges and numerous HVAC systems were beyond their useful lifespans. Located in Georgia, Madison County Schools ensures students have a comfortable learning environment is critical. Madison County Schools first turned to ABM in 2001 to provide solutions for critical infrastructure needs in all seven of its schools. Faced with a very limited budget, the district's administration was unsure if all the necessary upgrades could be made.

Through four phases of energy performance projects, ABM has executed comprehensive infrastructure improvements to multiple schools, creating over $12 million in guaranteed energy and operations savings while keeping expenses budget neutral.

CHALLENGE

• Aging infrastructure with frequent breakdowns and humidity issues

• Occupant comfort issues resulting in poor learning environment

• High energy and operational costs with limited capital budget for improvements

SOLUTION

• Comprehensive, district-wide solution includes replacing/upgrading over 600 HVAC systems and 700 water consuming devices. Replaced over 11,000 lighting fixtures and two roofs.

• Extra savings paid for synthetic turf, athletic field lighting, and addition of first HVAC system in gym

• Training for in-house maintenance team plus fully guaranteed maintenance on large-scale HVAC equipment
