Brewers Baseball to use License-Plate Recognition System for Parking

While wins and losses are typically the ultimate gauge of whether fans will show up to support their teams at stadiums, other factors surrounding the stadium experience also sway people one way or another to spend their money on tickets. 

Convenient parking is one of those significant issues that influence the fan experience at stadiums. 

The Milwaukee Brewers became the first professional sports organization in the country to utilize license plate recognition technology for parking. According to a press release, fans with prepaid digital parking will activate their parking session by simply tying in their license plate on the MLB Ballpark App. Fans who purchase day-of-parking will scan a QR code posted on signs in the lot, then enter their license plate number and payment information. The team will work with a local parking company to operate the system.

The Brewers claim that the expedited process will help alleviate backups that often occur during peak entry times. Parking lot employees will still be on hand to assist with traffic flow and help fans with the process. 

Other effects of the technology include: 

  • Payments can be made via Apple or Google Pay or by credit card. 
  • Fans must pay before entering the ballpark or face a parking violation. 
  • Cashiers will no longer take payments due to the new technology.
