From Gas to Electric: How Facilities are Converting Grounds Equipment

Institutional and commercial facilities across the country are transitioning their grounds equipment from gas-powered to electric as part of their efforts to reduce emissions and do their part to help slow climate change. 

While the effort is noble and well-intentioned, it’s not easy. There are challenges such as building infrastructure such as charging stations, the cost of converting fleets of vehicles or handheld equipment, and in some instances performance issues. 

In this video, Dave Lubach, executive editor, facility market, sits down with Jason Bowers, the sports field supervisor for parks in Montgomery County in Maryland. Bowers discusses how the county’s transition is going and provides some tips for other managers going through a similar process.
