Inventory Check: Snow And Ice Preparation

Workers responsible for snow and ice removal need reliable snowplows and trucks to complete their tasks. But grounds managers also need to make sure crews have the essential equipment and supplies, as well as personal gear, to do the job efficiently and safely. Managers should review two categories in particular:

Equipment maintenance:

  • spare hydraulic hoses
  • spare cutting edges for plows
  • quality snow shovels
  • chains
  • rust prevention for equipment
  • spare parts for snow blowers
  • trailers and loading ramps
  • winter tires and treads
  • salt removal solution, for post-storm equipment maintenance.

Personal gear:

  • personal protective equipment, including gloves, hats and jackets
  • spare sunglasses to minimize snow glare
  • water jugs or bottles
  • radios or phones.
