According to Energy.gov, as part of the Investing in America initiative led by the Biden-Harris administration, the Department of Energy (DOE) has announced it is accepting applications for competitive funding aimed at providing energy efficiency certifications to the workforce.
The Energy Auditor Training (EAT) program, authorized by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, offers grants of up to $40 million to states for the purpose of training individuals in conducting energy audits or surveys for commercial buildings.
To help more people become skilled in green building work all over the country and to assist with making buildings more energy efficient as required by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act, EAT will make sure that building performance experts, energy auditors and other energy efficiency workers are prepared for the nation's move towards a sustainable future.
The DOE’s Office of State and Community Energy Programs is in charge of managing these programs. They are making sure that colleges, businesses and states are ready to carry out projects that make buildings more energy efficient. This program is in line with President Biden's Justice40 Initiative, aiming to ensure that 40 percent of the benefits from clean energy investments benefit communities facing energy challenges and historical disadvantages.
For those interested, applicants must submit their concept papers by March 28, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. ET and applications are due June 28, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. ET. For more information, visit the Energy Auditor Training program page.
