By Jeff Wardon, Jr., Assistant Editor

In a sources sought notice, the U.S. Air Force indicated that they are seeking feedback from the industry regarding Architect-Engineer (A/E) services with a focus on vertical design. The document specified its need of services for planning, designing and constructing new facilities, as well as maintaining, restoring, modernizing and demolishing existing vertical facilities.

The goal is to support new and existing Department of Defense (DoD) criteria and Executive Order 14057, with a focus on climate-informed design and construction for mission resilience and the transition to net-zero facilities.

This is not a formal solicitation, and providing information is voluntary with no expectation of compensation. The feedback will help the government determine the acquisition strategy, including whether the requirement will be set aside for small business and/or specific socio-economic small business categories.

Small businesses are encouraged to respond. A formal solicitation is expected to be posted in the second half of fiscal year 2024, with a value passing $2 billion.

Interested entities are welcome to respond by February 2.

Jeff Wardon, Jr. is the assistant editor for the facilities market.
