Top-Tier Indoor Environmental Quality at New Balance Headquarters

The new headquarters building for New Balance, located in Boston, is the first U.S. building to achieve all 12 credits for indoor environmental quality with the LEED 2009 Core and Shell rating system. Completed in September 2015, the 250,000-square-foot building earned LEED Platinum.
In LEED 2009 Core and Shell, there are 12 indoor environmental quality credits and two perquisites. Strategies include daylight and views, controllability of systems for thermal comfort, increased ventilation, and choosing a variety of low-emitting materials for paints, adhesives, flooring systems, etc.
In addition to its IEQ achievements, the building is also 26 percent more energy efficient and 35 percent more water efficient than a standard code-compliant building, according to NB Development Group, the commercial real estate company
