Report: 80 Percent of Companies Embracing Sustainability Initiatives
September 28, 2021
Commercial facilities are embracing sustainability.
A recent poll from Honeywell and The Business Journals revealed that 80 percent of 1,200 business executives surveyed said they have sustainability initiatives already in place, as they realize that embracing energy efficiency has a positive effect on building management and maintenance costs, in addition to contributing to making the workplace healthier.
Executives surveyed say energy-efficient lighting, HVAC optimization, and waste management are the most-deployed initiatives that are currently in place for both company-owned and leased office spaces.
The survey also revealed what facility managers should be looking for from the leaders at their institutional and commercial facilities from the sustainability area in the coming year.
•Nearly all respondents (93%) saw sustainability as a lasting priority in their company
•87% view sustainability as an investment in the future, not simply a cost
•60% of respondents who lease office space to tenants will invest in sustainability measures such as lighting, HVAC, and waste management, in the next 6-12 months.
