With the presidential election looming in November, potential exists that the Biden Administration’s landmark climate bill, Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), could be repealed should the Republicans take control of the presidency and Congress.

Even if that happens, a recent study says that many C-suite leaders are forging ahead with sustainability efforts. Carrier released the results of a survey this month revealing that 54 percent of the leaders surveyed plan to invest more in sustainability projects in the next year no matter the status of the IRA, which provides billions to organizations for clean-energy projects.

The survey, which included responses from more than 200 leaders in various industries, took place in July. The general response was that the organizations are prepared to move ahead with sustainable projects no matter what party is in control in Washington D.C. The survey found that 83 percent of C-suite executives in the United States will increase sustainability spending over the next two years.

Other results, according to the survey, include:

  • 57 percent of C-suite leaders say sustainability efforts will be a high priority in 2025, second only to artificial intelligence (65 percent).
  • Executives cite building decarbonization as their most important and most challenging priority in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Less than half of the respondents – 44 percent – are confident that companies will meet the 2050 global net zero goals of the Paris Climate Accord.
