The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) is canceling electric vehicle (EV) charging projects at facilities under its jurisdiction to comply with a President Trump executive order.

In a press release, the GSA announced the cancellation of 32 EV charging projects worth over $23 million. The Unleashing American Energy Executive Order was signed on Jan. 20 calling for the restriction of the government’s EV programs.

GSA Directive 5605.1B was issued on March 3, and it establishes that no new charging stations are authorized at the agency’s properties. The directive states that federal agencies must provide a written determination stating that they have a mission-critical need to charge electric vehicles at a GSA-managed facility.

GSA is quickly correcting course on efforts to install electric vehicle charging ports and looks forward to working closely with our federal agency partners to stop wastefully spending taxpayer dollars on charging stations that are not used or needed,” says Michael P. Peters, public buildings service commissioner.

The GSA manages a nationwide real estate portfolio of more than 360 million rentable square feet and $110 billion in products and services via federal contracts and delivers technology services that serve millions of people across dozens of federal agencies.
