Department of Energy Names Top Sustainable and Healthy Schools

Schools create an energy-efficient environment for safe learning.   May 29, 2024

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Efficient and Health Schools program recognized 13 schools at the 2024 White House Summit for Sustainable and Healthy K-12 School Buildings and Grounds: Equity, Learning, Health and Climate. The honorees set examples for energy-efficient schools that facilitate effective learning and keep students, faculty and staff healthy. Submissions were evaluated on their approach, outcomes, impacts, replicability and education and workforce training.  

The 2024 Efficient and Healthy Schools program honorees are: 

  • Boise School District, Idaho 
  • Broward County Public Schools, Florida 
  • Canajoharie Central School District, New York 
  • Hamilton Southeastern Schools, Indiana 
  • IDEA Public Schools, Texas 
  • Lansing Public School District, Michigan 
  • Livonia Public Schools, Michigan 
  • Loudoun County Public Schools, Virginia 
  • School District of Neillsville, Wisconsin 
  • Porterville Unified School District, California 
  • Portland Public Schools, Oregon 
  • River Trails School District #26, Illinois 
  • Seattle Public Schools, Washington
