The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has selected 15 cities or counties for its LEED for Cities Local Government Leadership Program.

The leadership program was founded in 2017 and has contributed more than $1.75 million and helped 56 cities and counties pursue LEED certification. The funds are provided to reduce climate change and advance resilience and social equity by measuring and tracking performance using the LEED for Cities rating system.

Cities and counties selected by USGBC are provided networking opportunities, technical assistance, access to educational resources, while having membership, registration and LEED certification fees waived.

The cities/counties selected for the 2021 program are:

  • Atlantic Beach, Florida
  • Billings, Montana
  • Claremont, California
  • Coral Gables, Florida
  • Durango, Colorado
  • Hattiesburg, Mississippi
  • Houston, Texas
  • Jupiter Inlet Colony, Florida
  • Kansas City, Missouri
  • Long Beach, California
  • Pinellas County, Florida
  • Racine, Wisconsin
  • Tempe, Arizona
  • West Palm Beach, Florida
  • Wilmington, North Carolina

Since launching in 2016, LEED for Cities and Communities has certified more than 120 municipalities.
