Leading the Way in Installed Solar's Explosive Growth

More than half of the 7,000 megawatts (MW) of installed commercial solar capacity in the U.S. has been installed since 2016, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). Apple leads the pack with the most total installed solar capacity, with nearly 400 MW installed.

The Solar Energy Industries Association’s Solar Means Business 2018 report combines data on on-site and off-site installations across 35,000 projects in 43 states. This is an increase from the 2017 report, which covered 7,000 projects totaling 2,500 MW.

After Apple, installed solar capacity leaders (combining on-site and off-site) are Amazon, Target, Walmart, Switch, Google, Kaiser Permanente, Prologis, Solvay, and Fifth Third Bank. Considering only on-site installations, Target wins the top spot.

The growth is due in part to falling prices and more flexible financing and procurement structures, says SEIA.
