The public comment period for LEED for Healthcare is open from November 16 to December 15.

U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) will respond to all comments, posting the comments and responses anonymously to the USGBC Web site. If changes are made, a second public comment period will be conducted on those changes. The resulting draft will then be sent to the USGBC membership primary contacts for ballot.

LEED for Healthcare is based on LEED for New Construction and the Green Guide for Health Care (GGHC). It incorporates technical requirements to address the needs of patients and medical staff, including increased sensitivity to chemicals and pollutants, traveling distances from parking facilities, and access to natural spaces. It applies to inpatient care facilities, licensed outpatient care facilities, licensed long term care facilities, medical offices, assisted living facilities and medical education & research centers.

The pilot phase for LEED for Healthcare has been waived due to the use of the GGHC pilot project input in developing the rating system.
