At the beginning of the vendor selection process, facility management organizations often overlook the need to perform a requirements analysis before they embark on the development of their request for proposal (RFP.) Stormy Friday, president of The Friday Group noted, if this step is overlooked, the RFP is a "scatter shot" approach and will not represent what the organization truly needs and wants.
"To improve the scope of work, facility management organizations should solicit input from customer organizations and top management to ensure all expectations for service delivery are covered," says Stormy Friday, president of The Friday Group.
Defining the level of service expectations is paramount to the creation of the RFP. The RFP should incorporate a request for specific references and include a walk-through of a current client a vendor serves, says Friday. The RFP should also feature a requirement to include the key personnel and the facility management organization's ability to approve any changes to proposed personnel prior to the start of the arrangement.
