Trends in Grounds Management: Expertise from Sports Field Professionals

Watch this session from the NFMT Remix conference that took place in November 2022 in Las Vegas

When thinking of grounds maintenance, people often think of raking, mowing and watering the grass, but there is a lot more behind the importance of keeping up with the facility's ground care. A lot of engineering, design and construction goes into making the grounds work for each organization.

A well-kept landscape can not only improve mental health but can increase the buildings value, make an impact on utilities and can improve safety. This panel of sports field professionals shares best practices managers can apply to their facilities' grounds.

Amy Fouty is an athletic field consultant for the Motz Group and also served as Head Groundskeeper at the University of Michigan and Athletic Turf Manager at Michigan State University.

Leah Withrow is the Head Groundskeeper for the Reno Aces, the triple A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. She is the youngest Triple A head groundskeeper and one of only four female head groundskeepers in all of major league baseball.

Bob Milano, Jr. is principal for the Lloyd Consulting Group, LLC and has more than 35 years of sports facilities expertise in a wide array of roles, including management of a large operations and maintenance organization, sports turf manager, stadium manager, and as a director of capital projects valued in excess of $500 Million dollars.
