In this video, LeeAnn Kittle, Denver Public Schools’ Executive Director of Sustainability, discusses DPS’s journey towards decarbonization.
This session delves into the district’s climate plan, emphasizing North Star Goals in environmental protection, economic prosperity, and social development.
Three years ago during the pandemic, 30 students from eight different schools gathered for a Board of Education meeting to express their concerns about the environment. As a result of the students' efforts, the district adopted a climate plan in 2022.
Kittle covers the six key frameworks of this plan, including the built environment, transportation, resource management, wellness, engagement and environmental justice, and career and curriculum.
Viewers will learn DPS’s approach through planning, financial assessments and pivotal strategies, breaking down ambitious 2050 goals into practical five-year milestones. They will also gain insights into the district’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, optimizing resource consumption, and fostering student engagement.
