Managing facilities in a hybrid work environment requires adaptability, innovative tools, and collaboration across teams. Virtual office platforms demonstrate how technology can address the complexities of hybrid models, enabling real-time collaboration, efficient space management, and enhanced employee engagement. Facility managers are at the forefront of this transformation, ensuring that both physical and virtual workspaces meet evolving organizational needs.

This presentation from NFMT Remix focused on strategies for managing facilities in a hybrid work environment, highlighting the challenges and opportunities associated with different work models: fully in-office, fully remote, and hybrid. As organizations navigate the post-pandemic world, Charles Pellicane, senior vice president, business development for Human-I-T shares insights and tools for optimizing facility management and employee productivity across these models.

The seminar uses a case study example of two facilities with a remote workforce. They adopted a hybrid model that balances in-person and remote work, leveraging tools like virtual office spaces to enhance connectivity and productivity.

To address challenges in the hybrid model, a virtual office platform was implemented to bridge the gap between physical and virtual workspaces, enabling real-time collaboration, accountability, customizable workspaces, and meeting flexibility.

However, despite its advantages, implementing virtual office technology comes with challenges. Adopting new tools requires training and overcoming resistance, particularly among employees less familiar with technology. Increased reliance on virtual tools also exposes organizations to potential cyber threats. In addition, leaders must create metrics to track performance in a hybrid setup, especially for roles without clear key performance indicators.

Facility managers play a crucial role in this evolving landscape. Beyond overseeing physical spaces, they are tasked with managing virtual environments and integrating them with physical spaces seamlessly.
