Quality Measures of Carpet
interiors, carpet, flooring November 7, 2008
Besides the fiber and pile, there are other important quality control measures to consider before choosing a carpet.
Yarn count is the amount of yarn needed to fill a given length of carpet. The higher the yarn count, the finer the yarn used in the construction of the carpet.
Face weight measures the yarn’s face fiber. It’s expressed in ounces per square yard, and the higher the number the better.
Carpet density is a measure of the weight of the pile yarn corrected for the height of the yarn. Again, the higher the number, the more quality the carpet and the longer it will hold up.
