Cork's Comeback

Cork is making a comeback in the flooring world, mostly due to the rising demand for environmentally friendly products and the desire for a natural aesthetic.
Technically, cork is a resilient floorcovering, but it should be maintained and installed like wood. It can be finished with polyurethane, wax or oil, and sometimes can have a vinyl wear layer. Each finish requires specific maintenance, but excessive amounts of water should never be used, just as with a wood floor.
Besides a unique visual, cork is also very soft underfoot and provides some sound and heat insulation. It’s a flooring that works well in areas where the aesthetic appeal is as important as comfort — lobbies, nurses’ stations or retail spaces, for example.
