Flooring Warranties: The Tangled Web

By Lewis Migliore

What is a warranty? Relative to flooring, a warranty is a type of guarantee that a manufacturer of flooring or associated flooring products makes regarding the condition of its product. It also refers to the terms and situations in which repairs or exchanges will be made in the event that the product does not function as originally described or intended.

How a warranty works: Warranties usually have exceptions that limit the conditions in which a manufacturer will be obligated to rectify a problem. Typically, and most often, whatever the flooring warranty gives you in the first paragraph, it takes away in the next three. And it usually doesn’t cover what you think it does.
