Walls painted in graffiti, restrooms in serious disrepair, and roaches lurking in the cracks — hardly the way you’d imagine describing any school in America. Yet that’s what the students of Enterprise Middle School in Compton, Calif., faced every day. It’s no wonder the students dubbed their school “Enter-prison.”
Today, students are holding their heads a little higher thanks a makeover from an NBC reality television show called “School Pride.” Of the hundreds that were nominated, Enterprise Middle School was one of only seven schools selected to receive a makeover.
Hundreds of students, teachers, parents and community volunteers turned out to help transform Enterprise Middle School. “School Pride” modernized the facilities at the school including classrooms, the school’s gym, locker rooms, a science lab and a new reading room which contains hundreds of new books.
Migrations BioBased Tile was installed at the school. The tile flooring is made with BioStride, a polymer which contains rapidly renewable ingredients, and contains 10 percent recycled content. The tile is FloorScore certified for low VOC emissions and also contributes to LEED credits.
In tests comparing it to standard composition tile, Migrations tile demonstrated five times more impact resistance and two-and-a-half times more resistance to cracking over uneven subfloors, according to the company.
