A serious malfunction in a combined natural gas and carbon monoxide detector can cause the unit to go into sleep mode and neglect to detect smoke or carbon monoxide. Manufacturer New Cosmos USA is recalling its line of DeNova Brand Combination Natural Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector due to a defect whereby the unit can initially alert to the presence of carbon monoxide or natural gas, but then put itself to sleep if the alert last less than four minutes, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall notice.
The detectors, sold at Lowe’s, Amazon, and other retailers between, December 2023 and July 2024, have thus far not resulted in any injuries or damage.
Facility managers who purchased the detectors should register at the manufacturer’s recall website to receive a prepaid shipping envelope and replacement alarm. The manufacturer recommends continuing to use the alarms until the new one arrives
