Wildfires in southern California are nothing new, but the 100 mph winds associated with the fires that swept through the area causing destruction in January were uncommon.
The dry conditions and winds created a deadly situation, as nearly 30 people died, more than 200,000 people were evacuated and potentially $50 billion in economic losses were experienced during the fires.
As the situation developed, the county of Los Angeles worked to keep residents, county employees and its facilities as safe as possible from the destruction.
