Consideration for Sprinkler Retrofit
drain, sprinklers June 23, 2010
When considering a fire sprinkler retrofit for your facility, know that there's a lot of stuff to keep in mind. For example, wet pipe sprinkler systems have a lot of water in them which periodically will need to be drained during standard testing. You have to carefully consider where this water will go.
One design engineer has seen systems that drain into a slop sink or a floor drain, which will not work. He said it's a case of the contactor thinking "Well, you didn’t tell me I couldn't." An example of a safe place to drain could be a field outside, if you have that luxury. Just make sure you're not compromising any paths of egress.
