RECALL: Playground Equipment Poses Strangulation Hazard

  November 13, 2018

By Naomi Millán

Burke Merge Metal Climbers have been recalled because they pose a strangulation hazard to children. The playground climbers have two welded handgrip locations at the top, and a child could become trapped between them.

The climbers are attachments on Burke play structures, were sold in many colors and feature small geometric shaped openings leading to a platform and two welded handgrips at the top.

The recall affects about 200 units sold between November 2015 and March 2018. No incidents or injuries have been reported to BCI Burke at the time of the recall, according to U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall 19-703. But the company says facility managers should remove the climbers from use immediately and contact the company for a repair at 800-356-2070 or bciburke.com.
