President Biden Issues Executive Order on Worker Health and Safety

  January 25, 2021

Amidst President Biden’s flurry of executive orders last week was one that will have a direct positive impact on the health, safety, and wellness of facility occupants.

“Ensuring the health and safety of workers is a national priority and a moral imperative,” Biden writes in “Executive Order on Protecting Worker Health and Safety."

Biden’s executive order directs the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to update Covid recommendations within two weeks. As well, the executive order directs OSHA to study whether temporary mandatory standards for workplace safety should be enacted, according to the Washington Post. If the agency concludes temporary standards are necessary, they must be issued by mid-March.

The executive order could make masks and proper social distancing mandatory, strategies that had not been enforced by OSHA under the previous administration.
