Plumber Finds Cash, Checks Inside Walls of Joel Osteen's Church

File this one under, “Things that make you go hmmm?”

A plumber hired last month to repair a loose toilet at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston found more than insulation when removing a tile to move the toilet. He found envelopes of cash and checks inside the walls, according to KSAT radio

The plumber told his story on a local radio show in Houston. He said he found about 500 envelopes containing an unknown amount of money. The church later confirmed that the money was turned over to the church after the plumber contacted the church’s maintenance supervisor.

Such a discovery would raise eyebrows under any circumstance until it’s revealed that in 2014, it was reported by sister station KPRC that $600,000 was stolen from the church. The disappearance of the money remains under investigation by the Houston Police Department.
