Playground Equipment Can Trap Children, Recalled
January 20, 2020
Playground climbing structures from BCI Burke have been recalled because one of the rungs poses an entrapment hazard. No incidents or injuries have yet been reported, according to U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall number 20-044.
The recall applies to about 440 Burke Merge metal climbers, which function as ladder alternatives for climbing to a platform of a play structure. The climber’s main support is C-shaped, with a web of abstract shapes forming climbing rungs. “Burke” is printed on identification labels that are placed on the exterior of the play structure.
The recalled climbers were sold between November 2015 through August 2019. Facility managers with the recalled climber installed at their playground are directed to block use of the climbers until a company representative can inspect the product for potential replacement.
BCI Burke can be reached at 800-356-2070 or www.bciburke.com.
