Since the COVID-19 pandemic, more office workers around the country have grown used to the idea of working from home.

These days, CEOs are expressing interest in bringing those workers back into the office, even if only on a limited basis. General Motors joined the list of big nationwide brands expressing interest in bringing their employees back to their desks

Last month, GM’s CEO sent a company email expressing her interest in having office workers at their desks three specific days of the week, “at a minimum,” according to the Detroit Free Press

The automaker is “explicitly” requesting that hybrid employees be on site every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with senior leaders having the option to have employees in the office more days.

Company officials say the new policy is related to encouraging more collaboration focused on the automaker’s efforts to sell more electric vehicles.

Many salaried workers are not in favor of the policy, but businesses surrounding giant companies like GM also welcome the change in policy, as foot traffic at nearby shops and restaurants have lost lots of revenue when sometimes thousands of employees stay home and work.
