New Guidelines for Reopening Nursing Homes Now Available

  June 9, 2020

Federal health regulators at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid are developing guidelines for reopening nursing homes, proposing steps that would allow visitors to return to facilities that have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic despite lockdowns, according to Kaiser Health News.

Some industry officials and infection-control experts are worried that moving too fast  could increase the risks.

Coronavirus fatalities in long-term care facilities account for at least a third of the deaths in 26 states and more than half in 14 of those.

The data, which was published by the Kaiser Family Foundation, reports tallies from a variety of care facilities, including nursing homes, adult care residences, and other skilled nursing care settings. However, it does not break out those categories separately.
