The BOMA Gross Areas Standard has been updated to include four new gross area methods, according to Building Owners and Managers Association International (BOMA).

The new gross area methods are leasing method, international comparison method, volumetric method, and construction method.

Other changes in the BOMA 2018 Gross Areas of a Building: Standard Methods of Measurement (ANSI/BOMA Z65.3—2018) include compatibility with the International property Measurement Standards (IPMS), more variety of use cases, and the inclusion of answers to questions users have had of earlier versions of the standard.

The Gross Areas Standard was first published in 2009. BOMA published its first standard, Standard Method of Floor Measurement for Office Buildings, in 1915.
