Best Practices to Maintain Employee Satisfaction

  April 15, 2019

Feeling like your work matters and your company caring about you as a person are two of the hallmarks of the best companies to work for, according to analysis presented by Stormy Friday, president of The Friday Group, at NFMT 2019 in Baltimore.

In a session entitled “How Facility Managers Can Learn from the Best,” Friday discussed the characteristics of highly ranked companies outside the world of facilities management, as ranked by employee surveys done by companies like Glassdoor. Friday said facility managers can tend to get siloed and look for best practices only among other facilities management organizations, but there is much to emulate beyond that sphere.

At Boston Consulting Group, for example, one factor contributing to ranking highly in employee satisfaction is the augmented benefits package. Even if there is little the facilities manager can do about their employees’ benefits, they could still take steps such as offering tickets to a sporting event or a certificate for a spa day, Friday said.

Other keys to success are having a motivating mission so employees have a clear sense of purpose, an emphasis on employee growth, and transparency with open and clear communications.
