  September 18, 2018

By Naomi Millán

About 3,500 StairMaster exercise machines have been recalled because the steps can suddenly accelerate without warning, posing a fall hazard.

Core Health & Fitness, the importer of the recalled StairMaster 8G Gauntlet Stepmill machines, has received 52 reports of unexpected sudden acceleration, including 12 incidents of minor injury, according to U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall 18-764.

Models 9-5250 and 9-5270 of the StairMaster 8G Gauntlet Stepmill are included in the recall. They were sold between October 2017 and June 2018. Stairmaster is printed on both sides of the unit, which could be red, black, or red and yellow. The machines have a revolving staircase and a backlit LCD console.

Facility managers affected by this recall are instructed to immediate prevent use of the machines and contact Core Health & Fitness for a free repair. Core Health & Fitness can be reached at 800-598-8541, support@corehandf.com or www.corehandf.com.
