2016 Operating Expense Budget Benchmarks: FM Survey Results

Building Operating Management surveys the facility management industry about expectations for operating budgets for the following year. The 2016 Facility Operating Budget Plans report offers a look at the industry as a whole. It finds that about the same number of the respondents expect their operating budgets to stay the same (42 percent) and to increase (40 percent). Only 18 percent of respondents expect their facility operating budgets to decrease in 2016, less than half as many as expect facility operating budgets to increase.
The survey report breaks down results by the following building types: commercial (corporate office), commercial (leased space), medical, education (higher education), education (K-12), government (federal), government (state), government (municipal), and hospitality.
The survey asked the following question: In the next year, I expect my operating budget to: Decrease by 5 percent or less, Decrease by less than 5 percent, Increase by 5 percent or more, Increase by less than 5 percent, Stay the same.
The survey is based on 2,450 responses.
