The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has opened public comment on a draft of the new LEED for High Performance Operations rating system, a revision of USGBC's LEED for Existing Buildings (LEED-EB) rating system.

LEED for High Performance Operations was came following a rigorous revision process of LEED for Existing Buildings, USGBC says. USGBC has revised the draft to meet the unique needs of whole building operations and maintenance. LEED for High Performance Operations addresses aspects of facility management such as site maintenance, green cleaning, alternative transportation, alternative energy and water conservation.

Any member of the public can comment on the draft rating system. The public comment period will be open through Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007 (9 AM Sept. 3rd Pacific Standard Time).

As with prior public comment periods, USBBC has pledged to respond to all comments, and post the comments and responses (without commenter names or organizations) to the USGBC Web site. If changes are made to the draft, a second public comment period will be conducted on those changes. The resulting draft will then be sent to the USGBC membership for balloting.

Visit the public comment page for more information and to participate. (A site user profile is required to submit comments.) Please contact leedinfo@usgbc.org with any questions.
