NFMT Provides Opportunity for Fresh Perspectives
Taking a break from day-to-day operations and attending an industry event offers solutions and new connections.

Normally when I travel for my job, I’m either attending or working at a conference for the industry I cover. I’m looking for trends, connecting with readers, or in the case of our own events, often introducing speakers or moderating discussions.
But a few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to flip the script and attend a media summit. It was the first time in my career that I walked in the shoes of an attendee. I was able to hear from industry leaders, network with other editors and learn new ideas. The end result of this trip will be stronger content and better products for you, our readers and attendees.
I mention this experience because what I appreciated most was the break from day-to-day operations. Like you, my days are packed with deadlines, meetings and putting out whatever fire has just popped up. This show was a welcome change of scenery that cleared my head, allowing for fresh perspectives. I encourage facility professionals to apply this same mentality with their industry conferences. Sometimes you need to step away from what’s in front of you to see operations from a new angle.
At the end of March, our NFMT Baltimore trade show and conference provides that chance to get out of your building for a few days and gain those new insights. Whether it’s checking out products in the expo hall, hearing from presenters, or talking with your peers over drinks and appetizers, you’ll find actionable answers to solve your current challenges. Events like this are also a great way to grow professionally. Not only can you earn continuing education units, but maybe you’ll learn how to become a better manager or make that connection that leads to a new career opportunity.
One of the best opportunities for discovering solutions and forging new relationships is attending our “Huddles.” These sessions are a bit more casual and allow attendees to collaborate with each other in an interactive and intimate environment. Discussions are always lively with participants sharing their personal experiences. We’re running six Huddles during the week with topics covering emergency preparedness, staff development, hiring, outsourcing, AI and young professionals.
NFMT runs March 25-27 at the Baltimore Convention Center in the Inner Harbor. If you’re at the show, I’d love to hear about your takeaways. You can likely find me in the Show Central area of the expo hall, please stop by and say hello.
