Hearings to change the 2006 edition of the International Code Council (ICC) are scheduled to be held Feb. 18 to March 1 in Palm Springs, Calif, ICC has announced.

ICC has received nearly 1,900 proposals to modify its 13 code documents. During the hearings, code development committees for each of the ICC codes hears testimony and then either recommends the change for approval, approval with modifications, or disapproval.

BOMA International says it has submitted several code change proposals including elimination of changes approved during the 2006-2007 code change cycle to provide an extra stair for buildings over 420 feet high, and elimination of a requirement to provide expensive photo luminescent markings in addition to emergency lighting on stairs.

Committee recommendations are subject to a public comment period. All proposals receiving comments are then subject to a vote of the ICC voting members at during the ICC annual conference in September, 2008 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Changes approved during the 2007-2008 cycle are expected to be included in the 2009 editions of the ICC codes.

A schedule of the public hearings can be found on the ICC Web site.
