Group Examines Security Personnel’s Tasks, Training
A recently formed group has begun the task-analysis process for security guards or officers across federal and commercial markets, as well as industries and applications, to provide a best practices guideline for security functionality.
A recently formed group has begun the task-analysis process for security guards or officers across federal and commercial markets, as well as industries and applications, to provide a best practices guideline for security functionality.
The Federal Protective Service (FPS) Working Group, hosted by the
National Association of Security Companies (NASCO), aims to identify the basic functions and tasks of security personnel, assign criticality and validate training to improve operations, according to NASCO.
The primary goals of the group include:
- Establishing the definition of a security guard or officer
- Identifying security functions and tasks
- Validating these for contract and training requirements
Discussions at the first meeting of the group included reviewing several existing definitions of a security guard and officer and differentiating between the two terms.
Also discussed were the primary counter-measures to reduce risk in a security system, the basic functions and tasks of a majority of security officers and basic training areas that are subject to additional considerations, according to NASCO.
