One of my main duties for this magazine is to produce informative articles that maintenance and engineering managers find beneficial to their jobs. Today, though, I'm offering that opportunity to you, our readers.

Tell us your stories. Mesmerize us with your tales of creativity and resourcefulness in your institutional and commercial facilities, and you could win a 2015 Facility Maintenance Decisions Achievement Award.

These awards recognize the crucial role maintenance and engineering departments play in the cost-effective, energy-efficient operation of facilities. They recognize notable achievement in four categories:

Renovations and Retrofits, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, roofing, and grounds care

Financial Management, including capital and operating budgeting and notable savings, and product specification

Sustainability, including water savings, energy efficiency, green purchasing, and recycling

Personnel Management, including recruiting, training, retention, and outsourcing.

What makes a winning entry? No specific criteria can define the best submissions. But the judges look favorably on entries that produce impressive bottom-line savings and long-term benefits for organizations.

The contest is free and easy to enter. Visit www.facilitiesnet.com/fmd/fmdaa, and click on Apply. You also can view past winners and learn important contest deadlines. E-mail me at dave.lubach@tradepressmedia.com if you have questions.

From the editors of FMD, good luck. We look forward to reading all about the fruits of your departments' labors.

Dave Lubach offers insights gleaned from conversations with managers who make key maintenance and engineering decisions in commercial and institutional facilities.
