More Than A New Look

By Edward Sullivan, Editor

When I approached Stephen Bell about being profiled in this issue, I wasn’t thinking about the way change has been at the heart of his career. But as a cover story it’s on target for an issue that introduces significant changes in Building Operating Management.

The visible improvements in this issue start on the front cover, with a new logo and format, and continue with a more contemporary look that includes bolder headlines and stronger graphics.

Many substantive changes were driven by feedback from facility executives. We know readers look to the magazine to keep them informed about new products. In response, we have expanded our product coverage and moved it to the front of the magazine. And conversations with readers led us to take steps — both on the cover and in the features — to provide faster access to information.

The redesign also reflects changes in the way information is disseminated. Today, it’s no longer clicks or bricks — it’s both. You’ll see the change on our new table of contents, which reflects greater integration with FacilitiesNet and our other electronic initiatives, and in the links to online information within feature articles. You’ll also see it in the transformation of our Web site, FacilitiesNet, which features daily new product coverage, daily blogs by editors and industry expert Stormy Friday, and a new format that provides one-click access to a wealth of information about key areas of facility management and technology.

After months of work, we believe we’ve made solid improvements. But we’re not the ones to judge what we did right or where we went wrong. Drop me a note to let me know what you think.
