Calling It a Career
Here at Building Operating Management and FacilitiesNet.com, we're celebrating the career and retirement of our long-time editor, Edward Sullivan
By Dan Weltin, Editor-In-Chief
For many people, 2020 is a year they’d like to forget — and it’s only half over. However, we don’t have that luxury and life goes on. That’s why during this time of hardship and uncertainty, it’s more important than ever to recognize milestones and celebrate accomplishments.
I wanted to take this opportunity on behalf of all the facility group editorial staff, as well as the 73,000 Building Operating Management readers, to thank Ed Sullivan for his 30 years of dedicated service as he retires this month. I may be new to the facility team, but I’m not new to Trade Press Media Group. For 17 years, I have been colleagues with Ed while I oversaw some of our company’s cleaning brands. We’ve discussed editorial philosophies, shared best practices, and collaborated on projects.
For three decades, Ed has been a fixture in the facility management industry. He helped make Building Operating Management the No. 1 industry publication. He was there to broaden our reach by helping launch FacilitiesNet.com and the NFMT trade show. His absence will be felt not just in the facility editorial group, but throughout the Trade Press family and the entire facilities management industry.
But as I said, life goes on. As the new editor-in-chief of the facility group, I won’t pretend to be Ed. I can’t replicate 30 years of facility experience overnight. However, I can bring the same dedication to all of our facility brands that are critical to helping readers tackle their daily problems and further their careers. And, I will help improve our current products and launch new ones — such as our recent membership site fnPrime — to assist and educate managers during these challenging times.
Reading Building Operating Management is only one way facility managers can better themselves and stay current with industry trends. This publication is part of a family of brands — I’ve already mentioned FacilitiesNet.com and NFMT, but we offer even more. Maintenance managers and engineers in your building may be receiving our sister publication Facility Maintenance Decisions. If you work in a hospital or other healthcare facility, our website HealthcareFacilitiesToday.com offers daily coverage of this market. I will be overseeing all of these brands and it’s my goal that you and your teams will take advantage of each and every one.
Once again, thank you Ed for your leadership and friendship. Now go and relax — you deserve it.
