What is "biophilia" and what are some of the more interesting ways you see this concept being applied in commercial facilities?
Biophilia is the human connection with nature or natural systems. There are many ways to exemplify this connection in the built environment including outdoor public spaces adjacent to buildings, and also pulling the natural world within our buildings. Easy examples are water features and living walls, but if one digs a little deeper we can begin to see our buildings are an extension of a natural system. Not to be confused with biomimicry, or a building that functions like a living system, biophilia gets to the very roots of our instinctual desire to be a part of the natural world around us.
