New York State is launching a $10 million incentive program to encourage large commercial institutions to electrify their buildings.
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is offering the program to commercial facilities that have annual energy costs of at least $1 million for commercial facilities and will install energy-saving projects by the end of 2025.
Proposals are required to identify an energy saving goal, the projects they will complete to meet that target, and the cost-share they are requesting from NYSERDA. Awards will range from $500,000 to $5 million and winners will be selected based on large thermal energy savings, emissions savings, cost effectiveness, peak load reduction and accelerated installations.
Eligible projects include:
- Energy efficiency improvements
- Process efficiency improvements
- Geothermal and air source heat pumps
- Electrification of thermal loads
- Energy management systems and controls
- Operations and maintenance improvements.
According to Utility Dive, the program is designed to help facilities achieve the state’s climate goal of reducing economy-wide greenhouse gas emissions 85 percent below 1990 levels by 2050.
