The 27-hospital Advocate Aurora Health system has committed to using 100 percent renewable electricity by 2030 as part of its pledge to create healthier communities, according to Becker’s Hospital Review.

Advocate Aurora Health, based in Downers Grove, Ill., and Milwaukee, includes 27 hospitals and more than 500 outpatient care sites. By using clean power across these sites of care, the organization hopes to reduce its annual carbon dioxide emissions by 392,657 metric tons.

The health system will evaluate all major construction and renovation projects for on-site renewable electricity sources, but plans to use a combination of on-site, off-site and purchased renewable power. It will also focus on becoming more energy efficient.
