What are some key operational changes facility managers should consider in order to save energy?

I have a list of ten we suggest to facility managers:

1.    Retrocommissioning
2.    Pick the low-hanging fruit – tax incentives and energy grants
3.    Learn to read a utility bill – understand the rules of the game
4.    Paper conservation
5.    Don’t be in hot water – lower DHW temps
6.    Stop burning the midnight oil – turn off lights at night automatically
7.    Delamp overlit spaces – there are many opportunities in most buildings
8.    Cool It!  - reduce thermostat temps in winter, raise in summer
9.    Stop flushing money down the drain – water conservation
10.    Go to sleep – put your computer monitors to sleep when unused
