Many San Francisco Area Hospitals Still at Risk of Earthquake Collapse
February 12, 2020
Some San Francisco area hospitals keep applying for — and receiving — extensions to make seismic upgrades, 12 years after the retrofit deadline of 2008, according to the SFist.
The Hospital Facilities Seismic Safety Act (AB 2190) gave hospitals until 2008 to bring themselves into structural compliance.
But the current version of the bill allows them to apply for extensions, again and again.
Eight Bay Area hospitals are taking advantage of these exemptions.
